Grateful, Blessed and Appreciative

Fall is upon us and Thanksgiving is just around the corner.
The week was short for me, but the children had a week packed with learning and discovering.
Wonders:
The children started writing Haiku Poems after reading from the Anthology and Reading/Writing Companion Book.  We read many poems-some were about a Rat, A Chimpanzee, an Eagle and many more nature ones.  Looking forward to see the final poems this week.

Our Focus Wall keeps the children informed with what our Literacy Block will cover for the week.  Often children refer to it in order to see what our skill is for the week, which stories we will be reading, our vocabulary and spelling words are posted there and even the Grammar skill we are working on.  It is a great resource for the children to refer back to.

Character Trait of the Month:

The month of November is all about Gratitude.  In keeping with that, we are creating a Gratitude Tree in our hallway.  Children were given leaves so that they could write what they are thankful for.  It is coming along nicely, along with the Gratitude Jar that they are filling.

Reveal Math:

We have finished Unit 4 and the children began Unit 5 on Friday.  This unit involves Numbers and Number Patterns.  The children will work with factors, prime and compostite numbers, multiples and shape patterns, just  to name a few of the topics in this unit.

More to follow on these topics as we progress through the unit.

Parent/Teacher Conferences:

It was great meeting and talking to the families that attended.  It was a successful night with a great turnout.  I am always available to set up meetiings, both live or virtually, if you would like to conference with me about your child.  Our grades for the 1st trimester will be closing on December 1st which means that report cards will be out soon.

Our Classroom Reward Jar is filling up.  Once we have reached our goal of 24 stars, the children will be able to participate in some type of reward that they will choose as a whole class.  The children have been earning stars from other teachers as well.  It could be the way they are walking in the hallway or how they are performing at lunch or their specials.

Upcoming Events:
The month of December is always filled with events and lots of excitement.
The PTO will be hosting nany fun ones.  Be on the lookout out for Holiday Shopping, Cookies with Santa and some other great events for the family.

It's Been Another Full Week

It's been another busy and productive week at SOS.  We held student council elections in 5th grade.  The children gave amazing speeches and their classmates voted for the President and Vice President for the school year.  I was very proud of all who ran for office and stood up in front of their classmates.

Congratulations to our President Adrianna and our Vice President Jaezian.

Morning  Meetings:

Our morning meetings have been going well.  The videos we show correlate with our theme of Gratitude for this month.  The discussions tie in nicely with what they share out and the participation is great.  They all have lots to share.

Wonders:

We are finishing up with Unit 2 Week 4 and are starting on Week 5 this week.  The children are working cooperatively with their groups, working on vocabulary and on the digital component of Wonders.

Station Rotations:

During our station rotation, the children work with groups and complete tasks during the alloted time.  They work on Wonders Adaptive Learning, IXL, Epic, Grammar and Vocabulary words.  As they transition, from group to group, they collaborate with one another, build confidence in doing the assigned task and learn how to work together.  It is great to see them move from group  to group.

On Friday, we were able to enjoy extra recess as our reward for winning the color battle for our grade.  The children loved being outside and having extra time to be with their friends and enjoy playing a little bit longer than their usual recess time.

Other Candids from the Week:

On Tuesday, I will choose a VIP for the week.  This student will have a spot in the room and will be my helper throughout the week.

I have also set up a Gratitude Jar in the room.  The children can fill out a slip that explains what they are grateful for.  This ties in nicely with out character trait of the month.

Upcoming Events:

Our monthly PTO meeting in on Tuesday night, virtually at 6:00.

I am looking forward to Parent/Teacher Conferences on the 15th.  I have sent home the schedule card for your child.

Many of the teachers participated as well, Western Wednesday was the best!
