Counting it Down to Summer

Our Summer Countdown continues until we get to the letter Z on the last day of school.  This week we had some pretty interesting days as we made it through another packed week.
The children got to take part in a dance party throughout the day.  At first not many wanted to participate but as they saw classmates dancing, many took part.

On Tuesday it was all about the Exercise breaks.  Throughout the day, the children broke into exercises like jumping jacks and push ups.

On Wednesday the children wrote about their favorite color.

Thursday was all about Gratitude Day.  The children wrote letters to who they were grateful for.  Some of the students wrote to friends in school, some wrote to teachers. It was so satisfying to see them take the time to write some nice words to one another.

I even received a few that brought tears to my eyes.

Friday was hat day.  Some of the children wore silly or favorite hats throughout the day.  It was such a busy day that I was not able to take a picture of the children.  We had an practice evacuation drill and the day kept us busy with many other things.

Monday:
Our week started like any other week with Wonders.  We were introduced to the new story, essential question and grammar.  The children work as a group and sometimes individually to get the work completed.
Tuesday :
It was pretty much the same as we are working on our RI ABC's and Science project about an Earth's feature.  The children are writing reports and researching a project about a landform they are interested in learning more about.

Wednesday:
More of Wonders work took place and we reviewed from our Unit 11 in Math.  It is great to see the children work together and explain how they got their answer.  Some of the children had to present their natural disaster slide show.

Thursday:
Collaboration is the name of the game and we see lots of it in the classroom.  The children reviewed Unit 11 in Reveal Math and helped one another figure out the answers to the math questions.

Friday:
This day was such a busy day, that I did not get much of an opportunity to take pictures.  We started our day with an evacuation drill.  The children did a fantastic job and know exactly where to go and what to do.  Once we got back to the school we had art class then it was time for our Spelling test.  The day flew.

The afternoon took us into more of a math review and some of the students were able to take part in Fun Friday.
Oh by the way, through all of this it was also Mental Health Spirit Week which was put together by our social workers and school psychologists.  Here are some pictures of what they did.  The 4th graders did not get to see the therapy dog or take part in the mental health fair-which is being rescheduled for us for the upcoming week.
They also got to wear green and dress as someone that inspires them.  Again, I was not able to capture those pictures.  Thank you to Ms. Armstrong and Mrs. Gentile for putting this all together for us.

Within the past few weeks, we were asking for donations for our Veterans.  There were many donations made.  Thank you to all the families throughout the school who sent in toothpaste, white socks and deodorant for our local veterans.

Looking forward to another fun filled week ahead.

Countdown to our Summer Break

Our official countdown to summer vacation began this week.  On Wednesday we started with the letter A and we are working our way to Z.  Many of the children participated on Wednesday with Anything Goes Hair Day.  I saw many fun, different hairstyles.  The girls especially had unique braids and fun accessories in their hair.  For the letter B it was Bring your favorite book and read in any spot in the room and for C we gave all our classmates some positive compliments.

Looking forward to the rest of the days ahead.

Monday:

We began our Spring Diagnostic Testing on Monday in ELA.  The children worked diligently to improve their scores and show growth.  We continued with our Science Unit all about the Earth's Features and researched more of the RI ABC's.

Tuesday:

There was more i-Ready testing and the children practiced their Wax Museum speech with one another.

Wednesday:
On Wednesday all the children presented their wax museum presentation and continued to put the final touches on their speech.  They were excited to show off their work.  I had each individual student go up with the tri fold and they recited their speech to everyone.  They also began the i-Ready Spring Diagnostic in Math.

Thursday:
What a busy day it was for the students.  Not only did they finish up the i-Ready Diagnostic but it was the big day for the Wax Museum presentations to all the other students.  They were excited and anxious at the same time but they did a fantastic job.

Friday:
It was another busy day.  The children presented the Natural Disaster Slides to the class.  They have become pros at presentations.  They made eye contact, spoke clearly and taught us a thing or two about various natural disasters throughout the world.

Special Surprise Visitor:
The children got a real nice treat on Friday.  Our very own Ms. Browne came to surprise them one last time before she graduates.  The children were so excited to see her and they took part in a special picture that she planned.  The children were thrilled and so happy to see her.  She and I pulled off the surprise.

The rest of the day was dedicated to completing the compliment plates and fun Friday.

Coming Up this Week:
The school social workers and psychologists are planning some fun activities for Mental Health Spirit Week

The letters D, E, F, G, and H will be celebrated this upcoming week also.

The Stephen Olney School put out a Community Yard Sale this Saturday.  There were lots of items up for sale and lots of community involvement.  The weather was spectacular and the company was great.

Hope everyone is enjoying this spectacular weather and have a beautiful rest of the weekend!!
