Spirit Week and Our RICAS Pep Rally

Another eventful and busy week in the books for us.  Spirit Week was a blast seeing all of the students showing off their spirit on all the various theme days.  The week ended with a fantastic pep rally to get our 3rd-5th graders ready for RICAS.  Thanks to our student council for all their hard work and dedication.

Teachers/staff and students got in on all the fun.  The pep rally was loud, fun and sent out a great message for all.

Amplify Science:

We are continuing with animal senses.  This week the children took part in an experiment that involved using their sense of sight, touch, smell and hearing.  They were given viles filled with things and they had to guess what was inside based on whatever sense they had to use.  It was great to see the children shaking the viles, smelling and touching what was inside.  They worked together to figure it all out.

Station Rotations:
The children are doing a better job in their stations.  They are working on assignments in Wonder, grammar, Epic, IXL and Lexia.  They help each other out and complete the work that they have been given.

Reveal Math and RICAS practice:
In the past few weeks we have been working collaboratively on figuring out math problems which may be part of their testing.  They work with manipulatives to figure out the answers using the UPS Check strategy.

Social Studies:
The research continues for their live wax museum work.  The children are finding information about the Rhode Islander that they chose.  They want to learn all they can about the person so that they will be able to report out everything they know about this person.

If you still haven't donated for our raffle basket, there is still time.  We will be collecting outdoor toys/games until Tuesday.

Our ELA Ricas begins on April 4th and 5th.  We know the children will give it their all and put in 110%.

Please remember to send in the money and slip for the April 6th Spring Fling.

Spring Pictures are tomorrow.

Successful Reading Week and a Talent Show!

We had another amazing week at SOS.  We took part in Reading Week, Ricas practice, and finished it off with an awesome Talent Show put on by so many talented students.  We have some very talented children and our very own Mrs. Fullerton and Mrs. Sanchez did an incredible job putting this all together.  Our very own Ms Gambardella also put together some fun reading week activities that we participated in.

Our week began with the kickoff by Mr. Pacitto.  He read I Promise by Lebron James to the entire school body.  This book was a great way to open our week to the theme of Strive for Greatness...Read!  We had listened to Mystery Readers, High School Students and took part in Reading Buddies with the Kindergarteners.  There was also a grafitti wall set up in the main hallway for all of us to write why we read and why reading is important.  The pictures below captured most of the week's events.

Ms. Gambardella was our guuest author and read her book to the 4th graders.  The week was filled with lots of activities and the children took part in all of them.  Our class read to kindergarten and I captured some of the cutest reading buddies.

Our students also took part in STAR Reading Time at the end of each day.  They chose a book, a comfy spot anywhere in the room and read for at least 20 minutes each afternoon.  I love to see children with books in their hands.

Along with our Reading Week festivities we continued to practice for RICAS and in our Wonders curriculum we read a story about the moon landing.  Our Live Wax Museum project will cover our Social Studies curriculum for a good part of the trimester and we are continuing with Animal Adaptations in Amplify Science.  All wonderful things taking place and lots of work is happening at SOS.  We are up to the challenge and doing our very best.

We ended our week with an Out of This World Talent Show

We were all treated to wonderful performers from Kindergarten all the way up to our 5th graders.  There was singing, dancing, gymnastics, rubix cube competition, and so many more acts.  The dedication and hard work was evident in all the acts.  Kudos to Mrs. Fullerton and Mrs. Sanchez for putting it all together.

Spirit Week is this Monday through Friday

We are collecting donations for our Spring Fling Raffle Baskets-please consider donating items to fill the baskets.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead.  I can't believe we are already in our 3rd Trimester.  What a fast year we are having!!
