A Peek into the Week Ahead!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and is feeling refreshed and refocused for the week ahead.

On Monday and Tuesday of this week we will be presenting the book bottle projects that the children created.  I cannot wait to see what they bring in and show to the class.

The children will give a presentation about the person they read about and then we will display the projects outside our classrooms.

Wednesday we will be celebrating Dr.Seuss' B

irthday/ Read Across America Day.  I am so excited to see all the wonderful activities that are planned out and take part in them.  There will be livestream events that we will participate in.  Our Reading Specialist, Ms. Gambardella has really outdone herself in planning these fun activities for the entire school.

The children can come in dressed as a Dr. Seuss character.  They will be listening to a number of books being read to them.  Can't wait to see all of our Dr. Seuss characters on Wednesday.

These are some of the titles that will be read out to the children.  Our ELA class will be reading-Oh The Places You"ll Go!  There are also some fun activities planned for this book.  Other fun learning activities have been planned with many of the other titles.  Tune in to see what we have  planned.

I have been working on getting things ready for the day.  This past week I have hit all of the Dollar Stores and found many Dr. Seuss items to incoporate on that day.  My house is Seussified and ready to go.

The children will get a choice of Green Eggs and Ham as one of their lunch choices.  Yum!!!

Stay tuned throughout the week to see all the wonderful events taking place in the classes.  Class Dojo will be blowing up with pictures of all these great things that are happening at SOS.

Looking forward to seeing all the children tomorrow morning.

Work Hard, Play Hard

Our week began with a day of distance learning.  The children attended their scheduled google meets and completed work that was assigned to them.  We listened to Everyone Loves You, Mr.Hatch and had a great conversation about the book.

When we returned on Tuesday morning, we started working on The Friendly Letter in preparation for our Pen Pal Project.  The children are so excited about getting the letters from other schools in different states.  Hopefully, this project will develop some great friendships along the way.

We are also working on Drama and the children are creating their own little skits.  Once we return from our winter break, they will be performing them in front of their class.

Mrs. Santilli is teaching the children about what to include in the letter and how to address the envelope.

                          Station Rotation

This past week, the children took part in station rotation in our ELA class. The children had the opportunity to go to 3 stations and work together on the assignments in each center.  We have a teacher led center, a writing center and a technology center.  It was great to see them help each other and interact with one another to get the tasks completed.

                                       Global Play Day

On Friday, we celebrated Global Play Day.  This was an opportunity for all the children to unplug from electronic devices and just play board games, with each other.  It was fun to see them laughing and playing and just being kids.  They chose what games they wanted to play and just played uninterrupted and freely.

Look at all those happy faces!!!  It warms my heart.

Children took time in each class to have fun and interact as laughter filled the room.

The day went smoothly.  Each student got along, played with one another and just were able to be kids, something that we need to let them do after the couple of years we have had.

On Friday we also held the virtual student of the month assembly.  The children are so excited to see who makes it for the week.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful Winter Break.  We all will refresh, refocus and relax in order to come back to school and able to start up where we left off.

Here's the Scoop- Week of February 7th

100 Days Smarter

On Tuesday we celebrated our 100th day of school.  Children dressed as elderly people, or wore shirts with 100 items, they took part in fun 100 day activities and the staff had their elderly relatives come in.

It was a fun day for everyone.  The children seemed excited and the faculty and staff had a great time too.

We had various stations set up in the room and the children chose where they wanted to go.  There was writing involved, building, art work and so much more.

The year is passing by so quickly.  The children are progressing nicely and becoming more independent with their learning.

                                          Author Study

The students are researching authors and will be completing a written report about the author they chose.  These will be due on the 18th.  The students are also working on Drama.  They are creating skits and have performed one from the Wonders book.

                             Friendly Letters and Pen Pals

The students are so excited to receive their pen pal letters from children in other states.  We have 4 different groups of students that we will be exchanging letters with.  One group is from Nevada, another is located in Arizona, we have one in Utah and we will also be exchanging letters with a 4th grade class in Providence.

We are going over the parts of the friendly letter and things that they should write about to their pen pals.

Within the next few days we will be receiving the letters and the children will be able to write back.  This will hopefully create wonderful friendships that will last a lifetime, or even for a brief time.

Upcoming Events

This upcoming week, we will be starting a Poetry Unit.  Winter break is taking place the week of February 21st, and their Biography Book Project is due on the 28th.

March 2nd is Dr. Seuss' birthday and that day is filled with live streaming events, poetry, the Masked Reader and so much more.  Stay tuned for another day planned by our Reading Specialist and Literarcy Team.
