Falling into Learning

Good Morning, we had another fantastic week of learning in Room 232.
Our weeks are just flying by.  Take a look at what we did throughout the week of September 22nd.
Monday:
We began a new week of Wonders.  The children collaborated and worked on completing assignments.  We worked on Subjects and Predicates and finished up the chapter/unit on Place Value.

The children work together after my whole group instruction  It is great to see them collaborate together and help one another out.
In Math once the lesson was done, they were left to do the On Their Own part with help from our resource teacher and myself.

Tuesday:
The children are continuing  with their Personal Narrative stories.  We watched a video on drafts and then they put all their ideas down to begin their actual narrative.  It was wonderful to see them help one another out and give advice on what to write next.  The conversations throughout the room were amazing to listen to.

The children give each other a hand, share their ideas and work nicely together at any given time during the day.  It is so great to watch them help one another and ask questions when they either missed something or need to copy notes from one another.

Wednesday:

This was our first indoor recess due to the rain we got.  The children played games or drew while we had recess time.  It was great to watch them as they played together and watching all the friendly competition made me happy.

We also began our review of Unit 2 in Math.  They reviewed vocabulary and skills throughout the chapter.

Our i-Ready data wall is ready to start tracking the results from their diagnostic assessment.

Thursday:

We continued with our week ´ s curriculum and stayed on top of our daily assignments. (No pictures here because we were so involved with instruction time).  The children continued with personal narratives and we had discussions about their first Star Conference Time which took place on Friday.

Friday:

We held our first Student of the Month virtual assembly.  It was great to hear the excitement of the children waiting for them to see who it would be.  Mr. Pacitto held the assembly right after our morning announcements.

The rest of our day was conferencing with the individual students.  We discussed their i-Ready scores and they set goals for the month of October.  We also talked about where they could make improvements in i-Ready.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy some great family quality time.
For anyone who made it out to the first Back to School Bash, I hope you enjoyed the night.  It looked like there were lots of fun events and activities planned.

On Track

The air is brisk, the classrooms are bustling and we are on track.  It feels like the children have been here more than a few weeks.  They are already falling into a nice routine and able to follow most of the routines without too many reminders.  We had a busy week.  The days go so quickly and so does the time.

Monday:

We started the week with Dot Day.  This is a great book (The Dot) by Peter Reynolds.  It discusses making your mark in the world and not giving up.  The children listened to it and did a few fun activities during our Morning Routine (meeting and intervention).

Tuesday:
The children began Personal Narratives.  We watched and discussed a video about choosing a topic and brainstorming.  This led the children to thinking about an event in their life that was interesting and could write details about the experience.  Many children got right into it, some needed a little prompting but we are all set with our topics and will start creating a draft this upcoming week.

The children listen to music as they begin listing all their topics.  They write for a given amount of time and then we discuss what they came up with.  We also were able to shop at the book fair.  The children chose many great books and wanted to read them as we got back to the room.  The children also prepared invites for the upcoming Open House.

Wednesday:
We had our first assembly and the children were reintroduced to some of the topics we discuss all year round- Star Bucks, What bullying is, and Celebrations we will be a part of in regards to i-Ready data.  Mr. Pacitto ran the assembly and the children participated and focused on what he had to say.

We also reviewed types of sentences in preparation for the test they took.  Lots of participating and learning goes on throughout the day.

Thursday:

We continued planning our Personal Narrative using a graphic organizer and collaborating with one another.  We also prepped the room for Open House.

Open House:

It was wonderful to meet so many of you on Thursday night.  I tried to speak to everyone, but if I missed you, my apologies.  I wanted to get to everyone, but time flew by.  I hope you were able to go around the room and see what the classroom is like.  For those that signed up for parent/teacher conferences, I will send out a reminder with your time as the time gets closer.  I hope you were able to get a good view of your child´s day and things we do. This was my 27th Open House and felt like a success.

Friday:
We had our 2nd star student of the week and continued with Math-Place Value.  We are following the scope and sequence and it seems like the children are grasping the concept.  There has been a lot of participation in all the subjects, but I am noticing that many of the children contribute in Math class.  We also had the opportunity for the children to purchase from the Dojo Shop using their points.  In Social Studies we are learning more about our town and we started the first unit in Science- Energy Conversions.

Here is what is coming up for the week ahead:
Wonders: We are starting a new story which brings new spelling and vocabulary words, new grammar topic and we continue with personal narratives
Math: we will finish up with our first unit and the unit test will be on Friday.
Amplify Science: We will continue to investigate the blackout in Ergstown
Social Studies: the children will research a landmark of historical place in North Providence and create a slide
We will be welcoming a new student tomorrow and I know everyone will make her feel great.
We are holding our first Back to School Bash on Friday (3:30-7:00)
Our PTO has planned this event and it will provide many with the opportunity to get to meet one another.  There are many fun activities planned and there will be food trucks available.  There is also going to be a bounce house, popcorn for sale and a chance to get to know families in our community.

Have a wonderful rest of the day.
