Our Final Week of the 2022/2023 School Year!

We had a wondeful last week of school.  It was also our last Spirit Week of the Year.

Monday started our  Camping Day.  We built campfires, wrote stories and read at Camp Read-a-Lot.

On Tuesday it was wear animal print- Safari Day.  The children went to the Lionś Den to read. They traveled to the Zebra Zone for Writing then to the Giraffe Jumping Zone for Brain Breaks.  It was a fun day for all.  They even traveled to the Congo for a virtual field trip.

Wednesday was Party in the USA in honor of Flag Day.  We learned about our flag and went on a virtual field trip to Washington DC.

Thursday the 5th graders had their moving up ceremony.  We wish them all the best as they beging middle school in the fall.
In the 4th grade we had our own little celebration with a Tropical theme day.  We learned how to do the hula and even how to say a few words in Hawaiian.

In our classroom we had our celebration:

Friday was our last day.  We called it Beat the Heat Day and the children had another day filled with beach day themed activities.  There was bubble blowing at recess, beach ball volley and we watched Tuck Everlasting.

This year we had 2 special women retiring.  On Wednesday we had a special assembly to honor Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Reddy.  They gave many years of their life to educate many children.  We wish them the best and hope that they enjoy their retirement.  So Friday, was really their last day of school forever.

It has been a year of ups and downs, but in the end, we all had a great year.  I have seen growth, progress and have come to learn so much about this class. I know that they will do wonderful in 5th grade.  Thank you for a fantastic 2022/2023 school year.
I am planning to truly enjoy my summer time.  I have vacation planned, beach days, and days to just do nothing.  It will be nice being able to get up and not rushing out the door in the mornings.  It is time to refresh, relax and recharge for our next school year, but for now it will be ME time.
Enjoy your summer and time with your family.  Stay safe and have fun.

In the Final Stretch

 Social Studies:

This week the children completed and presented their state project to the class.  They had to choose a state and create a slide with information about the state they chose.  Everyone did such a great job.  They continue to put their best effort in their work and always continue to make me proud.

Reading/Writing:
We finished up with Wonders and started reading Tuck Everlasting as our end of the year novel.  There were some great discussions about the book and the children worked on an Opinion piece about Living Forever- Yes or No?
The children are working on a culminating piece of their choice for the remainder of the week.  Some choices include writing a song, creating a gameboard, or even writing a letter to the author.  Looking forward to seeing what they create.

Kings and Queens of the Week
The students are loving being the king or queen of the day.  They enjoy their special privileges. They even choose a chair of their choice to sit in all day.

Coming up this Week:
We are winding down to our last 5 days of school.  This week I will start to collect the chrome books and chargers from the children.  Please make sure they bring both to school on Monday.
We will be finalizing our end of the year work and will begin to take home supplies and clean out our lockers.

Our final Spirit Week is taking place this week.  We have many activities planned revolving around our themes.  Looking forward to see all the school spirit and wrapping up our wonderful year.
Monday is Camping Day- children can wear their pjś, bring in flashlights, a stuffed animal,  blankets, a book to read and a special snack to have while they read a book with their flashlight, under their forts.

Tuesday is Safari Day- children can wear animal print clothing or accessories.  They can bring in a stuffed animal, we will be working on animal stories and doing station rotations that involve a safari theme.

Wednesday is Party in the USA- children can dress as patriotic as they like. In honor of Flag Day we will be learning more about our American flag, writing poems about the USA, and discover more about the American symbols of this country.

Thursday is Tropical Day- Our 5th grade students are having their moving on ceremony and in honor of them we will celebrate by wearing anything tropical.  We will be doing some fun activities around the room, do a writing activity about how sweet the year has been, have some hula hoop contests, and imagine that we are on a tropical island.

Friday is Beat the Heat Day- It is our last day of school and we will be doing a lot of reflecting of our 4th grade school year.  Children can bring in beach towels, chalk, bubbles, sun hats and sunglasses.  It is going to be a sendoff that they will remember.

Final Thoughts:
I am looking forward to this next and last week of school.  This class has been a wonderful class to get to know and discover things about them, even up until the end.  They have made me laugh, sometimes cry (in private), and yes we have had our challenging days.  I would not  change a thing.  They will always hold a special place in my heart and cannot wait to see what great things they will do in fifth grade.
