Fall Sweet Fall!

 Morning Meetings:

I really enjoy holding the morning meetings at the beginning of our days.  It doesn't always happen, but when they do, the children are 100% engaged in our sharing out and watching the video.  The children enjoy talking about the theme of the video, as well as, finding the answer to the riddle of the day.

Wonders:
We have moved onto Unit 2 and are reading all about how animals adapt in their enviornment and the adaptations they use to survive.  The children seem very interested in the stories we are reading.  The work they do in the Reading/Writing Companion correlates with what we read in the anthology.  They summarize, give key details and main idea of the story.

Some are not crazy about seeing the illustrations of all these spiders, but they are getting through it.  Words like "EEEWWW" and "Gross" are heard in the room, but they manage to read and listen to the conversations.

                                                            Reveal Math:

We are moving right along with math and are working on adding and subtracting large numbers.  They are learning the various ways of computing answers, decomposing, regrouping, etc.  I love to hear and watch them figure out the answers and some even come up and explain it to the rest of the class.  They love to "be the teacher."

Amplify Science:
We are continuing with Electricity.  The children are reading "It's All Energy."  They pair read and discuss what they are learning.  We are also taking notes and self reflecting on what we learn.  The children love pairing up and reading with a partner.

Social Studies:
We continue to learn about the Native American Tribes of RI.  We read about the Narragansetts, Wamponaugs, Niantics and the Nipmucs.  We will continue with more of this in the upcoming week.

WOW What a Week!!

Wonders:

We have begun our second unit.  The children have been introduced to the vocabulary and we have read our first story.  I love hearing the great conversations as they work together and answer questions from the reading/writing companion book.  We are also continuing with narrative writing and are working on Proper and Common Nouns.

Amplify Science:

We took a quiz this week on Electricity.  Days before we reviewed with playing a Kahoot game and keeping the children engaged.  They love a good, fun, friendly competition.

Reveal Math:
We are moving right along with our Math curriculum.  The children are working on adding and subtracting algorithms.

Social Studies:
Our ABC of RI is completed.  The children took a quiz on the state symbols of RI.  We will continue with RI history as the weeks go by.

Morning Meetings:

As we continue our morning meetings, the children have a lot to share and it sets us up for the day.  They have a particular question to reflect and share out on.  It builds our classroom community and gives them an opportunity to discuss their thoughts and add their own ideas.

Pumpkins in the Library:

Once again, this year, Mrs. Eastman provided the children with an opportunity to decorate their pumpkins as their favorite book character.  I walked through on Friday and was in awe of their efforts and creativity.  Each one was uniquely designed with such precision.

Other Events of the Week:
Wednesday was Apple Crunch Day and everyone took a bite out of their apple at 12 noon.
On Friday we had a busy day.  We had our first evacuation drill of the year.  The children did great.
We also had pink out day in support of all those who had, beat or have breast cancer.  Thank you for  your donations.
The best event on Friday had to be our very first Trunk or Treat at night.  Many children came and went from car to car getting candy and seeing all the creative ways trunks were decorated.  There was a DJ who provided all great music, inflatables that kept the children very entertained, a food truck and chocolate covered goodies.  It was a fun night had by all!
