A Blizzard of Learning

We had another packed week of learning and discovering.  The children did a lot of group work and independent work as the week progressed.  We had Monday off so that was a nice little treat.  The rest of the week we went through our Wonders, Reveal, Amplify curriculum and preparing for International Night.

Wonders:

We are at the end of the 3rd Unit in Wonders.  The children have been working together and completing assignments.  They collaborate and participate in daily conversations.  The children read stories, work in the reading/writing companion and work on vocabulary.

The children have access to the focus wall all week long so they know exactly what we will cover throughout the week.

Reveal:

We have been working on division in Unit 7 of Math.  The children are learning about equal groups, partial quotients and remainders.  The children love to pair up and show what they know and explain their work to others.  Collaboration at its finest happens in our room.  The children enjoy pairing up and learning from each other.

Amplify and International Night (Social Studies);

The children have been researching Bolivia and getting ready for International Night.  We began a new unit in Science titled Vision and Light.  We are learning about the rain forest and why some animals are diminishing in the habitat.

They have been spending the afternoons working within their group to do the research on Bolivia.  Some groups are working on Geography, others on the food, important people and festivals to name a few.  They are also working independently on travel brochures and country reports.

Virtual Learning:

Today (1/26/26) the children participated in distance learning thanks to all the snow we got this weekend.  It is not the ideal situation for learning but I think that most of them were able to join and participate.  It is good knowing that we won´t have to make it up in June.  It is not the ideal learning situation but it worked for the most part.  I hope we will not have many more days like this, as I truly feel it is better to be in the classroom , but the weather is out of our control.  Hope everyone stayed safe and warm and that the children were able to get the assignments completed.

A Winter Wonderland of Learning

It was another week  of learning and discoveries.  We packed in another week of Wonders, Reveal, i-Ready and research.  The days are flying and the children are thriving.  We have new data from i-Ready and we have discussed their progress.

Wonders:

We dove right into our new week of Wonders.  The children took an assessment on Delivering Justice, which I believe the children enjoyed.  We worked in our Reading/Writing Companion book and worked on Biographies.

Reveal:
Math was a challenge this week as we are learning about Partial Quotients.  The children are learning the skill and pairing up with one another to review the skill.  We get any of them to come up and show what they know.

We also held the SOS spelling bee to see who would represent our school at the district level.
Congratulations to Alex, we know he will do great.

Research:
The children continue to do research and collaborate for International Night.  They are planning out the displays they will have to represent Bolivia.  The conversations are wonderful to listen to and see how much they are learning throughout this process.

The Biographies turned out great.

We are always keeping  up with the many things that we go through within the day.  Whenever you walk into our classroom, there is always something going on, whether it is research, doing our i-Ready lessons or being involved in some group work.

Our classroom is always busy working on something  and we are all here to help one another and get the task done.  Sometimes, the children need little reminders to stay on task, or work together and get the job done.   We are all here to lend a hand to someone who may need it.  Hope you are all enjoying  the snow and some quality time with one another.

We celebrated our i-Ready growth with special treats and certificates.

I hope the children are having some fun in the snow today.  I am enjoying my coffee and lounging around for the day.
