Off to a Great Start for the New Year!

We are back once again and have started 2026 by getting back on a routine and getting acquainted with our procedures.  it was great to see the children again on Monday.  Having the 2 weeks off was great.  We should be well rested, refocused and recharged.

Monday:

The children were able to hold the book exchange.  This was supposed to take place on the Friday before we broke for our Holiday Break, but I was unable to be there due to a virus that got to me.  The children seemed to have enjoyed it and many began reading their book before the day was over.  We also began our Wonders week with vocabulary and new spelling words.  The children took a little while to readjust with the schedule, but we were all able to get back on track.

The children seemed to have enjoyed their book exchange and we got right into our Wonders story and vocabulary words.

Tuesday:

We started the morning off by choosing a word for the year.  We watched a quick video and then the children had to choose a word that they wanted to work on for the New Year.  The children had to write why they chose that word and then worked on their final copies.

Wednesday:
We worked on our 2026 Goals paper as we started the morning off.  We continued with Wonders and in Math we are working on Division.  We also discussed International Night and chose a topic.  The children are learning about Bolivia and each student chose a certain group to work in.  We have topics such as Geography, Food, Holidays, Famous People, and a couple more.  They dove right in and are learning all they can about the country of Bolivia.

Thursday:

We read Delivering Justice from our Anthology and worked on the summary, writing and reflection page of the story.  The children seemed very engaged in the story and worked nicely in their group to complete the assigned work.

Friday:
On Friday, the children were able to participate in camping day (they voted on this).  It was a  reward they earned for filling the star jar.  They set up their camp and many read books and told stories under their forts.  It was smiles and happiness all around.

This past week the children also worked on their Winter i-Ready Diagnostic Assessment.  The children signed a pledge on Monday and took their time and did their best throughout the week.  We will have results soon to show their growth.  On Friday we also announced the Star Student and went shopping in the Dojo Shop.  Our top table was also able to choose a prize from the prize box- which needed replenishing so I did that on Saturday.

Coming Up:
Thursday night we will be holding our Books for Bingo night
Our International Night is coming up in February- more info to follow
We sent home permission slips for our Talent Show- if your child is interested, he or she will need to fill in the permission slip which is due on January 31st.

Have a wonderful rest of the day and week ahead.
