The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!

We began our week with the newest unit on Wonders.  The children received their new spelling list and vocabulary words.  I introduced the essential question and genre for the week.  We read Aguinaldo throughout the week and worked in our Reading/Writing Companion books.

We are continuing Unit 6 in Math with multiplication strategies.  The children worked cooperatively and we used white boards to show what we know as they worked on various math strategies.

The children read Aguinaldo from their anthology book and there were some great conversations taking place.

The children are always working and love to help one another out.  The collaboration among them is great to see.

We are working on our classroom door.  The children are able to make ornaments and put their names in lights.  They work on this once they are done with work.  It is starting to look very festive and anyone who sees our door loves the way it is looking.

It is coming along nicely.

Tomorrow starts our Spirit Week.  Hoping to see many of the children participating.  This is also our last week until we break for the Holidays.  We will have a full 2 weeks off to recharge, refocus and relax, that is once Christmas is over.

There will be some fun events taking place this coming week.  Our book exchange takes place on Friday, along with an attendance and student of the month assembly.  Hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead.

Hustling and Bustling

ItÅ› that time of the year, where we are all busy and hurrying about.  The Holidays are just around the corner and everyone is feeling the excitement.  Here in room 232 you can hear and see how much we have been doing.
Wonders:
We began our week with reviewing for our Unit Assessment.  The children worked on the digital activities and we shared out what we knew.  We reviewed main idea, details and grammar that was part of Unit 2.
We began the assessment on Wednesday.  It was a 3 day event and some will be finished on Monday.

Social Studies:
We are reviewing places to see or visit in RI.  After reading R is for Rhode Island, the children all chose a letter and had to find a place in RI that went along with that letter.  They researched it, took notes and are going to display it- The ABC´s of Rhode Island.  I cannot wait for it to be done to see what a great job they did to put it all together.
Math:
We began a new unit all about multiplication.  We went over multiplying with 10´s. 100´s and 1,000´s.  Mr. Pacitto came in on Thursday to teach a lesson on the Distributive Property. The children were on task and seemed to have grasped this concept.

More Pictures of our Week in Review:

The children basically know the routine once they come in.  I provide them with a slide daily that has what they are to do for the day.  The children look forward to the word of the day, as it is a game for them to discover new vocabulary words.  They particularly enjoy the buzzers I have.

They also enjoy coming up to the board to work on Math problems or ¨teach¨ the concept to the class.

At any given time of the day, the children are engaged and on task doing the work that is expected.  There are days where we can be a bit off task, but they manage to get right back on, for the most part, to complete what needs to get done.  Even though we can be distracted by the upcoming holidays, they tend to turn it around and get back to what has to get done.

Upcoming Events:
The week of December 15 will be our next Spirit Week

We will have a book exchange on the 19th.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their day.  It can be a busy time for many, myself included.  I have many ¨to do¨ lists all over the place and I know I will check things off even though it seems like time is getting away from me.
