This month we will be putting up our Kindness Tree and watching for random acts of kindness.  If the children are caught being good, they will receive a heart to fill out and put on the tree.  The more acts of kindness, the fuller the tree will be.  Looking forward to this.  More to come next week.

The children are continuing to research Canada for International Night.  They are creating travel brochures, posters, the flag, and a cookbook.  I love to see the collaboration and planning that needs to get done in order for this to all come together.

One activity that they did in circle time was to all stand up in the circle, look down and then when the phrase, "look up," was heard they had to look up, and whoever they made eye contact with first, they gave the peace sign and then they partnered up.

Once they knew who their partner was, they went off and had
to find out an interesting fact about that person.  Once they returned to the circle they shared  what they found out.

Community building is something we have been discussing from day one.  It is important for children to express themselves.  This gives them the opportunity to share their feelings and feel part of the group.

Friday was a fun filled day.  It was World Read Aloud Day.  We had special readers come to the room and read their favorite books.  I read to Mrs. Imondi's Kindergarten places and had a blast.
Mrs. Brothers and Mrs. Bello came to our room and read, as well as the 2 student teachers that are part of our class.

The children enjoyed listening to the various books that the readers had chosen.  It was a wonderful day of literacy.  Books take you to new places, children are exposed to words, and their imaginations take them to wherever the book leads them.  I love to see a book in a child's hands.

Many of the children brought in their favorite book or the book that they were currently reading.  Look at those smiles!! As an ELA teacher it makes me happy to see the enthusiasm and joy that comes from reading.

In honor of the upcoming Super Bowl (Go Patriots!!!), our station rotation was dedicated to football games and activities.  The children were engaged in games revolving around grammar, compound words, parts of speech and even designing their teams jersey.  All in all, our day was extremely filled on Friday and the children seemed to have had a great day.

Wishing our home team the best of luck in tonight's Super Bowl!!!  Go Pats!!
