Week in Review: High Five Friday and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

4th Grade:
The week started with getting writing partners and going over the norms.  Once they had their partners, they shared a piece of their writing and had a conference, going over grammar, ideas and suggestions to add.
The students enjoy finding spots in the room or out in the learning commons to work together.  The space made available to them gives them choices.  The children enjoy sitting on bean bags or even on the rug.

We are on class dojo and the site offers many videos and activities for growth mindset.  The videos are sectioned off into 5- 7 minute sessions and then we have a discussion about the lesson in the video.  One particular video this week talked about the Power of Yet.  Strong and powerful messages about not giving up and keep on trying.

5th Grade:

Our 5th graders began with Summit and seem to be getting familiarized with the platform.  Our first project is to compare and contrast two short stories and present it in a very creative way.  The children look excited to begin and great conversations are evolving.  They are also continuing with reading Crash and have discussions about the book, either in the enrichment room, the learning commons or even on the beanbags with a partner.

High Five Friday:

On Friday the High School Athletes came to our school and greeted each child with a high five.  The children loved it and were motivated for the rest of the day.  It was great to see the excitement on their faces.  What a wonderful way to start off the day.  Seeing some of my former students was an added bonus.

Our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony:

Saturday was a beautiful, fall day and perfect for the ribbon cutting ceremony.  Many people from the community attended, along with many dignitaries and former students.  What a great turnout and such excitement.  The community was able to tour the school.   I am so honored to be part of this wonderful community and to work in a state of the art school.  We here at Stephen Olney School are very grateful and blessed.
