Immersed in our Everyday Learning

The children are diving right into Words Their Way!  Notebooks have been set up and they do a daily activity.  The children seem to be engaged and immersed in their words.
You can see that the children get right into it and work in groups.  Communication is key when helping out one another.
This week we had a lesson with our social worker, Mrs. Toic.  She came into the room and discussed our feelings zone of regulation.  Each morning the children check in with how they are feeling based on our Zone poster.  During circle time we talk about certain topics like, how we are feeling, is there something nice they want to share, or even just to give one another compliments.  In this particular discussion we talked about what we are looking forward to.
I created a padlet in which the students had to come up with a 6 word memoir.  It was interesting to see what they came up with.  The children love working on chromebooks.  Each class has a google classroom in ELA.  Various assignments are put up and get submitted when they finish up.
The high school band performed for us this week.  What a wonderful band.  The children clapped to the music, some sang and others bopped to the music.  Sign ups are underway for anyone who is
interested in joining.

Fifth Grade:

The fifth graders are also immersed in Words their Way.  They are working on various activities throughout the week to study and learn their words.
We are kicking off our school-wide PBIS program and the 5th graders are the first group to present to the school.  They are creating skits, a slide show and posters.  The month of November is dedicated to Respect.  The students are making posters that explains what it is.  Some are creating skits about what respect looks like, while others are putting together a slide show to explain what PBIS is all about.
PBIS is an incentive program in which each month is dedicated to a particular trait.  We want to see the children displaying acts of respect throughout the entire school.  They will be rewarded in one way or another.  Many of the classes use Class Dojo in which they gain points.  The children seem to be getting involved in helping out and getting ready for our kickoff this coming week.
