Black History Month

Well, it looks like the Groudhog saw his shadow, so we are in for 6 more weeks of Winter.
This past week our 4th and 5th graders have been distant learning due to the Covid19 Virus that has forever changed our ways of doing things.

Monday:
The children listened to Amanda Gorman's poem- The Hill We Climb.  The students chose a line that spoke to them and put it up on a Padlet.  There were tremendous responses and so thought provoking on the children's part.

Tuesday:
The children listened to the story of Maya Angelou and chose one of her quotes to create a mini poster.

Wednesday:
The children listened to Langston Hughes book of poems and chose 1 to make a wordle.

Thursday:
We listened to Faith Ringgold's book titled Tar Beach and worked on Comprehension questions using the RACE strategy.

Friday:
The children listened to Charles P. Smith- The Ninja Poet
They were assigned to create a poem of their own (original) and either write it or perform it
I was really impressed with all the fantastic work that was sent my way.
Onto week 2 of distance learning.  More activities are planned around Black History Month.

Have a great week and stay safe everyone!!!
