Autumn Happenings in 4Z

It is great to be back in the classroom with the children.  This pneumonia knocked me out and I was not able to blog at all.  Now that I am feeling a bit like myself again, here we are with another week of learning and growing in 4Z.  We have been progressing nicely with i-Ready benchmarks complete, we are done with Unit 1 of Wonders, Unit 3 of Math is coming along with learning about addition and subtraction algorithms.  Our Science unit is all about Electricity and Systems and in Social Studies we are still discovering new things about our state of RI.  The children are also writing opinion pieces about recess.

Wonders:

The children continue to collaborate and work on helping each other out.  They are working on activities, digitally and in their reading/writing companion books, while reading from the anthologies and researching the benefits of a longer recess.

Reveal Math:

The children continue to work together and come up to the board to show their work.  The collaboration among them is awesome, as they explain to each other how they got their answers or show one another where they have made their mistakes.

Social Studies:

This past week the children were able to present their RI ABC Slides to the class.  This was the first presentation for the year and I was pleasantly surprised with the job they accomplished.  They really put a lot of effort into this and it showed.

Amplify Science:
The children took a quiz on Lessons 1 and 2 of Unit 1 and now we will move onto the experiment using a solar panel and see what they can do to make the propellers move.  Pictures to follow.

Writing:
Our students have taken a stand on recess; shorter or longer time, and now they are writing to convince us.  They are watching videos and planning their writing in the Reading/writing companion book.

Reminders:
4th and 5th graders are collecting toothpaste for the Veterans.

Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated.
We are also collecting for the Food Pantry.

On October 18th we are having Pink Out Day.  The donations will go towards the Gloria Gemma Foundation.

Classroom Reward:
The children have earned Stars and have filled the jar. We will be deciding as a class as to what their reward will be.  More information to  follow.

Spirit Week #1
We will be having our first Spirit Week starting October 28th-November 1st.  Our 5th Grade Student Council has put together a great week of themes.  We hope to see a lot of school spirt that week.
Star Students:
The following students have been our Star Students up to now.
