That's a Wrap!!

Well, it's that time of the year.  The children are ready for summer.  It has been such a productive and fun filled year.  There was so much that we did and I hope that all the children have made some wonderful memories and enjoyed this school year.  I am so proud of the progress that they made and I know that they will continue to be successful.
 
Although the year is coming to a close, there is still a lot of learning going on. 

Fourth Grade:
The children have been continuing with the Units of Study, we write daily in our writer's notebook, they are writing letters to the incoming students, their thoughts about 5th grade and hopes and dreams that they have, and book reviews. 

 

 

The students also handed in their last book project for the year: The Sandwich Book Project.  They did another amazing job with these.  What a creative group of students.  

 

Our book a day is also coming to an end.  The children are continuing to listen to classmates that are reading to them.  We are up to 178 books.  This was the first year I started this and it was very successful.  In our new school next year, I will continue to make this part of our daily routine.  The children responded well to it and many valuable lessons were learned and discussed.

This week the librarians from the North Providence Library came to speak to the children.  They kicked off the summer reading program and told our students about the many wonderful incentives that are available.  The children will be coming home with their summer reading and math packets.

 

Fifth Grade

Our panel of fifth graders spoke to the incoming 5th grade parents.  It was a very informative session with the children speaking and showing them what Summit is all about and the benefits it reaped for us this year.  Sharing successes and going over the platform was the main topic of this informational session.  Kudos to our student panel for answering questions and showing the parents what their children will be embarking on.  Our first year with Summit was a successful one, even though their were some hiccups along the way, the children set goals and were responsible for the projects and content assessments.  The children took responsibility for their success stories.

 

On Monday, the National Honor Society graduating seniors came to walk through the school.  It was amazing seeing former students and watching them process through the building.  We wish them continued success as they embark on their next journey.

 

As we approach our final 2 days of school, I want to wish our 5th graders a world of success.  They will go places.  Although it is a happy time for them it is also bittersweet.  Many of them hold very special places in our hearts.  We have watched them grow academically, and socially.  They are a wonderful group of students.  I hope that the memories they have made here at Stephen Olney School will last them a life time.  As they leave us to start middle school, we want them to know that they will be forever in our hearts.  Reach for the stars and never give up!

This will be my last blog for this school year.  I hope that you have enjoyed reading it and finding out about the ins and outs of what took place this year.  I truly enjoyed writing this blog and hope that the 2019/2020 school blog will be bigger and better.
