Last week we read some wonderful books and had some fabulous conversations. The discussions that arise from some of these books is just absolutley AMAZING!
These books and more, lend themselves to great discussions. These 2 particular ones led us to talk about what kind acts they have done and what is one thing they could do to make a difference. During our morning meetings, I read the book, and the children lead the conversations. This is a great way to build our classroom community.
We are continuing in Wonders reading and talking about natural disasters. The children do both individual and group work. They have also begun personal narratives. There is so much happening in our ELA classes.
As children were finishing up the Aims Web assessments, they were choosing a spot in the room and reading, either a book of their choice or from Epic. It is great to see the children exploring books of their choice, or finding a book of interest. They seem to enjoy doing this activity, again with certain guidelines and protocols in place.
Can you see the rainbow? What a beautiful shot!
The children have enjoyed the beautiful weather during recess. They get to run around and take mask breaks. Recess time is always a great time to just unwind and enjoy the fresh air.
Just hanging around and being a kid.
We have begun to write SMART goals. We watched a video to explain the acronym SMART and then the children came up with a goal that was specific, measurable, attainable, relevent and time bound. Nice goals were written and discussed, now it's up to them to accomplish them.
Fridays are for redeeming our class dojo points. The children come up and "shop" for items they are interested in getting. I love to see their faces when they see what is available. Last weeks items included: pop its, vinyl stickers, balls, and some treats.
There is always something going on in 4Z's ELA class. The children are building friendships, discussing events and themes from books, enjoying the beautiful weather, writing stories and even "shopping" with dojo points. Love to see the classroom community growing and learning. It makes me so proud everyday to be part of this wonderful school.
