We are inching our way into our last full week of school. The days are flying and I feel like time is just not on my side. We are still working on finishing up our novel, our final writing task is being worked on and we are finalizing many of the end of the year events.
This week June 6th-10th we will be holding the fnal spirit week of the year.
Monday- Sports/ Gaming Day
Tuesdaty Tie Dye Tuesday
Wednesday- Rainbow Day
Thursday- Island Day
Friday- Fancy Friday
We are looking forward to showing our school spirit.
Reading:
We are going to finish up our novel this week. The children seem to be enjoying this book and great discussions are taking place. We have read up to chapter 13, only 9 more chapters to go.
Writing:
Our writing pieces are coming along and the children have chosen some very interesting topics for their Opinion Piece. We discussed starting their piece with a Hook that will capture the reader's attention right from the very start. We will be wrapping these up by the end of the week.
Happenings in the Classroom:
The children are busy working on many various activities in the class. They are writing, reading and conferencing with one another. The collaboration is amazing. Students want and enjoy helping each other out.
Our Student of the Month virtual assembly took place on Tuesday. The children who were chosen should be very proud of their accomplishments. Each one displayed the STAR qualities. Social Emotional Corner:
Reflecting on this school year, I find myself thinking about what could I have done better for my students? We held morning meetings and many great discussions came out. Some were more serious than other days, some made us laugh and others were sad. All in all, I feel our meetings were successful.
What would I change? I feel that the norms needed to be enforced a bit more. While we had rules to follow, sometimes the rules escaped us due to the conversations that took place.
As far as my own social emotional concern, I finally made it to the beach today and just sat on the wall at Narragansett and thought back on the year. Many questions arose and many things I would do different. Next year, I will be tweaking many things- one being the whole transformation of the room. We are breaking apart the Academy and I will be teaching all subjects to one group of students. This is a lot to think about and many new curriculums must be learned. After taking time today, I know that, as it will be difficult, it will also be a bit easier with just one class of students that I will get to know much better.
My very Happy Place- I will be seeing a lot more of once school is out.
Coming Up:
On Thursday, I will transform the room into a Book Tasting Cafe. Children will be exposd to many interesting books that they will sample and possibly like to read for the summer. Many fun events will take place that day.
