We seem to be heading on the right path. Routines are in place, schedules are being followed and we are enjoying getting to know more about each other every day.
Morning Meetings:
We have finally begun our morning meetings. We watch an inspirational video, discuss it and move on to a poll. They choose from one choice to another. There is usually a positive message and we discuss it. We also have Bagel ( our stuffed puppy). The children hold onto it while they share out.
Curriculum:
In Wonders we finished our first week by reading the text, working in their reading/writing companion, learning vocabulary words, along with their first spelling unit and other components that go along with the curriculum. They refer to our focus wall and have all the resources they need.
In Math we are working on the Problem of the day. It is a warm up to our lesson. They try to answer the problem and then we share out what they came out with.
We are starting Place Value this week and working from our Reveal Math Book
We also earn Stars for our great behavior and attitude. Once we reach 25 they will get to choose a class reward.
Social Studies:
We are learning about our Town and eventually we will know more about RI. Children will be sending out postcards to the 49 states, so they are reading books about RI, they are finding facts that they can include in the postcards. In return, other states will be sending us postcards to learn about their states. Before we do all of that, they need to research our town of North Providence and are putting together a flip book.
Science:
We are learning about electricity with the blackout in Ergstown. We are having great discussions about what natural disasters we have and how blackouts happen. By the end of this unit, the children will learn how to improve electrical systems in order for there to be less blackouts. This ties in nicely with our Wonders story-Earthquakes.
Writing:
Last week, the children worked on the benchmark of Narrative writing. We will begin to work on our narrative stories this week. They will choose a topic and make it into a story, including all the components of a narrative piece.
Star Student of the Week:
On Friday, we had our first star student announcement. Each week I, along with the other classroom teachers, choose a child who represents all the STAR qualities throughout the week. Here is our first STAR Student: Capri
Class Dojo Shop:
Friday, we also opened up our dojo shop. Throughout the week, the children earn points for positive acts/deeds, so on Friday they have the option of redeeming their points for prizes. I have 2 students who manage the shop. Some children redeemed their points while others held on to them for future purchases.
Reminders:
Thank you to all the parents/guardians that have filled out the forms and sent them in. If you still have some at home, please send them in as soon as possible.
Please remind your child not to walk over the newly place mulch that the town has put down, in front of the school.
Water bottles are allowed, but must be closed at all times. We have had quite a few spills and that takes away from instruction time.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week!
