A Winter Wonderland

With a new month beginning, we have much more to accomplish.  The children had 2 days of virtual learning last week.  Although it is not the ideal way to learn, we will not have to make up those 2 days in June.  We had some catching up to do and we are on the right course.  I sure am done with all this snow but it did look pretty for about an hour- now I am done looking at it and want sunny days and heat!!

Monday & Tuesday:

For the most part, we did have an ok couple of days.  I would have much rather been in person but we have no control over the weather and so it was what it was.  I think we will be a lot happier in June when we will not have to make up those days.  There were lots of happy faces on google meets and lots of discussions, especially on Monday.  Tuesday went a lot smoother and Ms. Brown took right over with teaching the lessons in Wonders and Reveal.

Wednesday:

We were much happier seeing everyone in person Wednesday morning.  We tried to catch up on all the technical difficulties and work that had to get done.  As I am still waiting on some of that work, we were able to get Science in and do work on Bolivia for our International Night.

This year our Math Coach- Mrs. Graziano, along with the school department, initiated a math bee.  It is very similiar to the district spelling bee.  The 4th graders competed with one another with multiplication equations.  After a few rounds, our 2 winners in our classroom were Aylla and Joshua.  They will now advance and compete with the 2 other winners in the other 4th grade classrooms.  We have finished up Unit 7 of Math and will be starting on Fractions this upcoming week.

The children love coming up to the board during Math and showing the class the strategies they use to solve math problems.  We did a lot of review work to prepare for the unit test that took place on Friday.

Friday:

This day I felt a bit overwhelmed as I am sure the children did.  We had Star Conferences, student of the month virtual assembly and a few assessments to complete.

I met with most of the children to discuss their progress up to this point.  We talked about i-Ready data, their zones of regulation and overall how their effort and Star qualities were displayed throughout the month of January.  They also set new goals for themselves revolving around lessons they need to pass in i-Ready.  While I conferenced with them, they had independent work to complete and assessments to take.  Ms. Brown was on hand to guide them along.  The day got away from us as Ms. Brown also had been observed by her college professor.  There just were not enough hours in the day.  I kept the Wonders assessment opened and told the children to work on it this weekend.  I normally do not do that, but due to time constraints I had to do that.

Coming Up...
February 2nd- Groundhog Day-let ´ s see if we get 6 more weeks of winter

International Night is taking place on the night of February 26th.  The children are working diligently to complete all the assignments.  The dioramas should be worked on at home and brought in on the 24th.  So excited to see them.
