Our 10 Day Countdown Has Begun

 

On Thursday we began the countdown to summer by displaying 10 balloons, filled with slips of paper that will reveal what theme the day will be. So far we had Camping in the Classroom and Art Day.  This will continue all of this week and the last 3 days of school.  At then end of the day, the numbered balloon gets popped and we get to see what we will focus on for the following day. The children get excited to see what it will reveal.

I usually prepare the room before the children enter in the morning.  They are very excited to see how the classroom is set up.  Here are some of the pictures taken as the children set up for camping out.  The fire on the screen added to the ambiance of being outside at night with the various animal sounds and crackling fire.  The children laid out blankets and set up "tents" around our campfire.

The following day was Art Day.  The children brought in art supplies from home and they created beautiful masterpieces.  The pictures show how creative the children were.

There were lots of happy faces and great discussions throughout the afternoon.

The room was prepared.  There were markers, crayons, colored pencils, construction paper, and stickers galore that they used.  It was a messy room, at the end, but worth seeing the smiles and happy children.

Our 5th graders also participated in these fun days.  There were some that really dressed the part.  They wore camoflage and fishing hats to participate.  Flashlights and binoculars were brought in.  Reading took place during "camping" and so many pictures were drawn during art day.  

They also played a Quizizz tournament to prepare for their vocabulary test.

Tomorrow is Game Day.  The children can bring in any board games, card games, or puzzles they have at home.  We will not be letting them go onto any electronics during this time.  They will be unplugged and socialize with one another as they play various games together.
