It was an amazing week! Our week started off with a breakfast for all the faculty and staff from our PTO to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. The goodies continued throughout the week. Mr. Pacitto left us sweet treats in our mailboxes and treated us to a luncheon on Friday. Students also were very generous with gifts, sweets, candy, flowers, cards, etc. We are so fortunate at Stephen Olney to be so appreciated and respected.
I am so appreciative for all the goodies and for working with a fantastic group of people.
Reading:
We are continuing with our Wonders reading program. Some have been working with Mrs. Sanchez and progressing in their reading skills and strategies. Others work independently, while others work in small groups with me. The Wonders program has many skills and resources to use within each unit. They focus on essential questions, vocabulary words, spelling and grammar, reading strategies, and focus also on MLL students and differentiation of lessons.
State Testing: RICAS
The 4th graders took the final part of the Ricas
Assessments (Math). They seemed to have taken their time and put in great effort.
Results will not come out until the fall.
Recess/ Outside fun:
The children always have so much fun outside. They enjoy the fresh air, run around and socialize with each other. Some of them even show off their acrobatic skills. Laughter and screaming fills the playground area.
Mother's Day:
The children had the opportunity to make a mother's day craft for either their moms, aunts, grandmothers or step moms. They seemed excited to make cards or write poems. I hope all the moms out there enjoy their special day and continue to be great role models for their children.
Self Care;
This week I did a lot of relecting on me. We should always take time in the busy day to self reflect on how we are either feeling, how we think we did in class, did we make the right choices, how can we make things better. I do this daily. I ask myself, how could the lesson have gone better, did I handle situations in a positive and peaceful way. I catch myself always asking questions. I encourage the children to do this as well. I often create exit google forms to answer self reflecting questions to get an idea of how they are, is something bothering them, what do they need more help in, etc.
