Christmas is in the Air

It was another great week at SOS.  The children are filled with excitement and you can tell that the holidays are right around the corner.  We are under Elf surveillance in the classroom.  On Friday morning, many of the children spotted the Elf Cam that has been set up.  The Cam is set up in our room and will be keeping an eye on the children throughout the next few weeks.  I am looking forward to seeing what fun comes along with the Elf from the North Pole.

Wonders:

We have completed unit 2 and the children have taken the assessment digitally.  We will be moving onto Unit 3 this week.  The children are enjoying the stories, working in their Reading/Writing companion books and writing in their notebooks both for reading and writing.  

                                   Amplify Science:

We also began our new unit titled Vision and Light.  We began discussions about how animals gather information from their enviornment.  We are also doing research on animals to see how they use their surroundings to get the information they need to survive.

                                       Social Studies:

We are continuing with our RI curriculum.  We are finalizing our postcards/letters to send out to the schools in the other states.  We have enjoyed listening to the ones we are getting and learning about their state.  Our map is filling up, slowly, with other postcards.  I cannot wait to see it filled up.  

                                        Reveal Math:

In Math we are working on factors and multiples.  It is crucial that the children know their multiplication tables in order to understand this concept.  IXL has many skills that they can practice on to learn their tables.  Now that the chromebooks are going home, the children should be working on it nightly.  I create leaderboards each week with certain skills to incorporate into the math curriculum.  

Student of the Month:

On Friday, we held our November student of the month assembly and our Star Time Conferences.  I met with the students, discussed their progress and they created their new goal for the month.  Our new character trait for December is empathy.  Grades closed on Friday and report cards are just around the corner.  I can't believe how quickly the trimester went.

It is always great to see the smiles on their faces as Mr. Pacitto announces who the students of the month are.
