We had another fantastic and busy week here at SOS. The children are so excited with the upcoming Holidays. Our Elf, Bernie, has been monitoring the classroom. The children love to walk into the classroom each morning and locate where he is. The excitement on their faces is magical.
Wonders:
We have been moving right along in our literacy block. The children are reading, writing, responding to text and having great conversations about visualizing, point of view and flashbacks. We use our Reading/Writing Companion books to work on as a whole group and even in small groups.
Reveal Math:
We are finishing up Unit 5 and the children took part in station rotation this past week. All of the games they played in each station was a review of each of the concepts in the unit. They worked with prime and composite numbers, factors, multiples and number patterns. They enjoyed each one and I really think that many of them were better able to understand the concepts with the help of classmates.
Amplify Science:
We started a new unit-Vision and Light and we are going to find out why the Tokay Gecko is beginning to become extinct in the Rain Forest. It is a great unit all about the Rain Forest and how vision plays an important part in the survival of animals.

Social Studies:
We have been learning all about the RI State House and how the laws are made. We are also continuing with the Postcard Exchange to the states around the US and hoping to have them in the mail by the end of this week.
As you can see, our days are packed full of learning and discovering. It is hard to believe that we are already in the 2nd trimester of the school year. This week is sure to be another great one. The student council has put together some great theme days for our Spirit Week #2. With the holiday season here, it is the time of year when all the excitement cannot be contained, but we are doing a fantastic job. We will be having a special in person assembly on Friday for the student of the month, attendance and RICAS scores. Stay tuned for more to come. Have a wondeful week.
On Friday, the children were rewarded for having beat the tally for starbucks from the month of October to November. They chose to have a campout. The children worked on writing while being in their "forts" and by the" campfire." Their faces say it all. They were so content with the activity.
