Collaboration, Accountable Talk and Working Together

Good Morning,

It was another fun-filled week of learning and discovering in 4Z.  We are so busy with wrapping up our curriculum that it is hard to believe that there are only a few more weeks left.

Wonders:

We are working on Unit 6 and reading more stories and learning various reading skills.  The children have been doing a lot of group work and helping one another with the various assignments.

Anytime you come into the room, you will find many of the children collaborating, having discussions and working towards completing their work.  The discussions happen on a daily basis.  They reason out their answers, ask each other for help and are very supportive of one another.

Reveal Math:

We are moving right along with our math curriculum.  The children are learning more about Decimals, Measurements and a little bit of Geometry is also thrown in there.  We are going to do a full Geometry unit in the next few days.

Again in Math class, the children help one another out in any way they can help their classmates.  Watching them reason out the answers and showing what they know is great to hear and watch.  They have accountable table discussions and support one another in any way possible.

Science/ Social Studies:

Work is coming along with the students creating their own country as a final product in Social Studies.  They are also working on the RI Scavenger Hunt at home with their families.  They will gather as many of the items on the list and display it, during the last few weeks of school.

In Science we are learning about the Earth and its features.  They will continue to read, take notes and discover all the layers of the Earth.

We also had some presentations this past week about their animal projects.

I am super excited to see what the children learned with about their state of RI and eager to see what country they create.  Stay tuned for more on that.

ABC to Summer Countdown:

Each day has been dedicated to a letter of the alphabet, with a fun learning activity planned to go along with it.  This past week we had the letters E, F, G, H, and I.  The smiles on their faces and the laughter brings me lots of joy.

E- is for Exercise

Everytime they heard the word Exercise they would get up and do some jumping jacks, push ups or run in place.

F-Flashlights and Favorite Book

The children read their favorite book, in any spot in the room and flashed the lights as they read.

G is for Game day- the children played board games for a little bit during the day.  It was a rainy day so indoor recess was to play games with friends.

H is for Hawaii.  We learned a little about the islands of Hawaii on a virtual tour and the children dressed in Hawaiian attire.

I-the children got to enjoy some Ice pops at recess time.  It was a refreshing treat on a beautiful day.

Upcoming Events:

Memorial Day No School 5/27

Field Day 5/30- here at SOS and Governor Notte Park

Talent Show 5/30 at night

Last Star Time Conference 5/31 for the children

We will continue the ABC Summer Countdown: Letters J, K, L, M, and N all this week.
