We had a week of RICAS testing in ELA and many other things happening in our classroom. I am so proud of the children. They used their strategies for testing, took their time and persevered the 2 days that they took their ELA sessions of the assessment.
Monday:
We went over testing strategies for the children to use. They were given positive notes from Mrs.. Fullertonś class and they gave it their all.
The room was ready on Monday afternoon. I made sure the tables were set for testing, the prize box was filled and little treats and motivational notes were on their tables.
Tuesday:
The first day of testing arrived. The children came in and were ready to go. Most of the morning was dedicated to the test and in the afternoon, we began working on our Poetry unit.
It was also April Foolś Day and I had to have a little fun with them. They were given a mini marshmallow to attract to Loofa Lirpa bird and they worked on a word search that did not have any of the words.
Wednesday:
Day 2 of testing took place, The children gave it their all and pushed through. The afternoon was dedicated to a few fun activities. Treats were left for them to have during testing time.
The turtles were a hit and the children were excited to get one.
Thursday:
The morning meeting was picked up again. The children enjoy them by greeting one another, learning a fact of the day, sharing out and doing an activity. Ms. Rhoden has some fun activities for the children to participate in. They also looked up some responsibility quotes for our character trait tree. It was a paraprofessional day and we are so lucky to have Ms. Myers in our classroom, helping out everyday.
We also continued with the Water Cycle expository writing and Animal Eyes in Science.
Friday:
All week we have been working on Poetry. April is Poetry month and so, we wrote Spring acrostics and Bio Poems. The children are very expressive and have done such a nice job with them.
We will be continuing with more Poetry in the upcoming weeks. We are also looking forward to our Spring Break. The children should be working on the Wax Museum project at home now. They should have their graphic organizer filled in, and can work on their written report. I can print them out at school once they finalize them. The handouts explaining the rest of the project should have come home on Friday. They explain the rest of the requirements that they need to have by May 8th.
Have a great weekend!
