Inspiring Minds: Discovering Their Potential

The week was a success.  Lots of learning is happening and the children are showing their growth and potential.  There were many events during the week and the children kept their focus.

Wonders:

We began another week of Wonders.  The children read The Incredible Shrinking Potion and worked in their Reading/Writing Companion Books.  They also reread A Drop of Water to help them with their Water Cycle Expository Essay.

The children do a lot of their Wonders assignments in group work.  They hold discussions about what they are learning and help one another if they are "stuck."  We enjoy to visit the groups and hear all of their strategies and conversations, sometimes we even join in.

The children are always busy with work and getting the assignments, either on line or in their textbooks, completed.

Reveal Math:

The children finished up the unit on Fractions and we have started Geometry.  They are creating Lap books to help them with all the different shapes, lines, angles and terms that are associated with our new Unit.

They are helping one another and working individually to get the booklet done.  The lessons correspond with each section of the Lapbook.  It is hands on and the children seem to be grasping the terms better.

Amplify Science:

We have begun reading about Animal Eyes.  The children are working with a partner to take notes and read the book.  They will be getting another in class project to work on with their partner.  Once again a lot of hands on and collaborating taking place.

The children are focused on their Reading and taking notes in preparation for their in class project.  They will get the details coming up this week.

Social Studies:

The children continue to work on their Live Wax Museum Research.  They are looking up information, filling out the graphic organizer and some are beginning their drafts for their written report.  It is one subject to the next in the classroom.  There isn't much down time, and the children seem to be progressing right along.  Tri-folds should be worked on at home.  The children are sending me pictures to print, and I have seen many working on the time lines to include on the tri fold.  I am so excited to see these and hear their amazing speeches.

Friday:
On Friday we held the Student of the Month and Attendance Assembly in person.  Mr. Pacitto introduced our new Character Trait for the month of April- Responsibility.  We also kept the trophy for the best attendance for the Trimester.  We are moving right along and doing our best.  Many medals were handed out for the improvement in attendance, as well as, certificates.  I hope your child has brought them home to show you.

Overall, it was another fantastic week in 4Z Room 232.  The children are participating, learning new things, discovering, and enjoying the last trimester of the school year.  Our Lucky Ducks are popular and the children get so excited to see who the Lucky Duck of the Day is going to be before the enter the classroom.

Upcoming Events:
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, the children will be taking the ELA portion of the RICAS Assessment.  We ask that your child gets a good night's rest, eats a good breakfast and use what they have learned to do their best.

Fifth graders will be holding their Live Wax Museum on the 3rd starting at 6:00.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
