Moving Right Along

It was a very short week, especially for me.  Tuesday was Veteran´s Day and I am sure that we all enjoyed the day off in honor of all the veterans who are serving or have served.  That night something hit me and knocked me off of my feet for 2 days.  I was not able to go into school and took the days to rest and get rid of the virus/bug that had gotten me.  The children were in good hands and did the assignments that were left for them.  I was thrilled to be going back on Friday.  It was wonderful to see them again and get back into a routine.  This blog is a bit abbreviated but I will keep you informed of what the children have been doing.

Our mornings start off pretty much the same.  The children come in, get settled and we work on a spelling/grammar activity and then move onto the word of the day.  While I take lunch orders and take attendance, the children prepare for the day ahead.  They love to see who will be the lucky duck for the day, and we move through our day.
Some days call for indoor recess and the children, for the most part, are content with that.  ELA takes a good block of our morning.  We are beginning a new story, doing some writing, and going through our Wonders curriculum.  You will always find the children engaged in some type of work, either independently or in group work.

As the morning progresses, they attend a special, whether it is Art, Health, Library, PE or Music.  Once we return, we finish up our ELA block and go to lunch.  Once we are back from recess, we begin our Intervention block.  During this time, many of the children work on i-Ready minutes in Math or Reading, depending on the day.  Some children work in small group with me or our resource teacher.  Some of the children receive other services, but we all have one goal in mind.
This past week, the children began a RI packet.  They are researching all about our state and using various sources to get the answers.

The children have also been working on creating Compare and Contrast slides so that they could present them on Friday.  The children had to choose 2 animals and find out what similarities and differences they have.  The children did a nice job working on this while I was absent and on Friday, we spent the ELA block presenting them.

Overall, the children did a great job with their presentations.  I am super proud of how they got it all done while I was not there and were able to present them to the class on Friday.
I am ready to begin another week of learning and growing.
This week I have appointments with many of you for our Parent/Teacher Conferences.  We will be starting on Wednesday at 5:30.  I am looking forward to meeting with you and going over your child ´ s progress up to this point.  We are on a very tight schedule.  I am meeting with you for a 5 minute session (I know that is not a lot of time, but we needed to do this in order to accommodate all our requests.)

On Tuesday of this week, we will be going over to the Providence College campus for our field trip to see the women players take part in the basketball game.  If your child ordered a lunch the kitchen will have it prepared, all others must bring their own lunch.

Chrome books will be going home starting on Monday.  The children will need to transport them home and back to school, daily.  We use the chrome books throughout the day, so it is imperative that they bring them to school.  We will also be sending home chargers in order to have them fully charged in school.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
