All in a Week´s Work!!

We seem to be back on track after getting through the Blizzard of 26.  The children are hard at work finalizing the work for International Night and are back on a routine.  The Blizzard through us back a bit, but we were able to get where we need to be in order for learning to be successful.

Monday:

We picked up with Wonders and read together.  The children worked on the new story together  discussing the story and answering questions from the Reading/Writing Companion book.

In Math they continued with Fractions and working with manipulatives to find answers.

With Science we have been continuing with Vision and Light.  The children were put into pairs and they had to discuss the writing prompt that was given to them.

I also started a new procedure for Word of the Day.  They have picked up on this new routine rather nicely.

The slide deck keeps the children on track so they know what is expected of them throughout the day.

During their i-Ready block, the children are able to move their clip to display how many minutes they completed.  This holds them accountable for their minutes and displays what they have done.

Tuesday:

The children read Star Parties and began some research  on the planets.  They had to look up information on all the planets and give 3 facts for each one.

For our Math lesson, Ms. Browne held a Jeopardy game with various questions about our Unit on adding and subtracting fractions.  This served as a great review and was interactive with the children.  They had to choose a topic, and answer it together to get points.

Wednesday:

Once we finished our Wonders and Math work, we spent most of the day working on the tri folds for our International Night (March 12th).  The children are really doing a nice job to get them completed and ready to display for all to see them.

Thursday:

The children  played a Kahoot Math game involving adding and subtracting fractions.  They really enjoy the interactive reviews and enjoy seeing who will take the first place on the podium.

Our class was also getting ready for Our Read Across the District Day.  The children created acrostic poems about Reading.

Friday:

We began our morning with a read a loud from Mr. Pacitto.  He read as we attentively listened to the story of Rosie Revere, Engineer.

Our day continued with another read aloud by Mr. Fullerton and trying to guess who our 4 mystery readers were.  The children were excited to listen to the poems as they were being read to us in a disguised voice.

There were some other activities like filling our a recently read form and we even held cougar time at the end of the day.  Each student had a book in their hand and found a spot to read for 15 minutes.

In Math we held a Gallery Walk.  In each station the children, as a group, worked on answering a math problem.  These were math problems released from the RICAS site.  We are preparing for the state testing coming up very soon.

All in all we had another productive and successful week.  There were lots of activities planned and the children seemed very engaged.  The discussions and collaboration were apparent within the entire week.  We are moving along nicely. I cannot wait to see what this upcoming week brings.  Whatever it is, we will be prepared and ready to take on whatever comes our way.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
