I hope everyone is enjoying their Spring Break. I wanted to get this blog out before the week comes to an end. I have been unplugged from all electronics up until today. The week has been great with a lot of recharging and relaxing. I have spent a lot of my time reflecting on the rest of the year and a little shopping therapy, here and there. Here is what we did the week before we broke for vacation.
Monday:
The week started with our new week of Wonders. With this came an essential question, introduction to the genre and a new story in the Reading/writing Companion book and Anthology. The children also finalized their explanatory essay and would be ready to present by the end of the week.
Tuesday:
The day started with a grammar lesson using more and most to compare adjectives.
We had a Kahoot review for our Science quiz. The children enjoy reviewing this way. Ms. Browne created this for the children and this interactive way of reviewing is really hands on and keeps the interests of all the children. We also did some math review work with Geometry shapes.Wednesday:
The children are continuing to work on their written reports for the Wax Museum. They are researching their famous Rhode Islander and organizing their information into a 5 paragraph written report with a cover. This is going to be an exciting time when they present who they became.
Thursday:
This was a tough day for all of us, as it was Ms. Browne's last day with us as a student teacher. To say there were tears is an understatement. Many of the children were sad to see her go. However, before all that, the children were able to visit the 5th graders as they presented for their Wax museum. Our kiddos were able to see them in action and got ideas for their speeches and what to expect.
The children worked on Wonders and Math throughout the day and finally had to say their goodbyes to Ms. Browne. We wish her all the best as she begins her next chapter- graduation and then she will move back home and look for a teaching job.
Best of Luck Ms. Browne- we will miss you!!
Friday:
It was the day I knew was coming. Ms. Browne had left and it was time for me to take charge again. I enjoyed the day, we had a lot to do before starting our Spring Break. It was bitter sweet. I got my class back but it was also sad to not have Ms. Browne in the room with us.
Our morning started with presenting our Explanatory Essays. Many wanted to share them, while others chose not to. There were essays about diamonds, roses, germs, cats, how to take care of a dog/pet and so many other topics.
Since Earth Day would be during our Spring Break, the children did a writing/art activity that had to do with how they would care for the Earth. This kept them very engaged and on task. There were some great ways to care for the Earth.
Our day ended with Fun Friday. The children have choices of what activity they would like to take part in. The majority of the class loves to take part in a Blooket game. It was a great way to end our hectic week.
The children will be continue working on their written report when we get back. I hope that they have been able to start their trifold and work on their speech. I am enjoying my time off but looking forward to seeing the children again and getting back on a routine. Overall, it was a great week and I feel recharged and refocused. We were all in need of this break so that we can end the year strong. Enjoy the rest of the days.
