Back in My Classroom

My blog is back and so am I.  My first week back from FMLA was great and a busy one.

We held International Night and what a turnout we had. The families were able to "travel" to the classrooms and see all the wonderful work the children did.  I love this event and it brings so many of us together.

The children worked on this for over a month.  They made posters, travel brochures, models of the foods, and so much more.  I am so proud of the work they did and it showed in their final products.

Wonders:

We have just finished up Unit 4 Week 5.  The children have read poems and continue to learn about repetition and stanzas.  They have shown their work in the many writing activities they have done in their reading/writing companion books.  While I was on leave, Mr. Grist did a fantastic job with keeping up with the curriculum and following along.

Reveal Math:

The children are working on Division and in Enrichment Groups for Math Ricas practice.  My group is working on Fractions.  We are getting a better handle on what Fractions are all about, comparing them, adding and subtracting with like denominators and whole to part.  They seem to have a good grasp on fractions but we will continue to work on them.

Amplify Science:

We are continuing with Vision and Light.  The children will be discovering more about why animals' vision is important to their survival.  They have read the book titled: Investigating Animal Senses and will move onto the next session of this unit, this week.

Social Studies:

Now that we have completed International Night, the children should already be working on their Live Wax Museum project.  This will be coming up quickly for our 4th and 5th graders.  This week we will work on more of the research, report and timelines.  We will view a video about a live wax museum and get a better understanding on what needs to be done.  At home, they should be working on their trifold, and gathering up a costume.

These are just some pictures of examples of what it will turn out to.  This is such a great event, where the 4th graders will be able to display all their hard work and efforts to the children of the school, as they come a visit them.  Our 5th graders will be presenting them at night on the 21st.  Another great event for families to see how their children shine.

Upcoming Events:

We are celebrating Reading Week from the 4th-8th.  So many reading activities have been planned and cannot wait to see the children participate. They will listen to mystery readers and try to guess who they are.  We will have a guest reader on Thursday.  We will take part in COUGAR time ( district version of Drop Everything and Read).  There are some virtual events and an in person assembly as well.

There will also be a SEL word parade that the children can take part in.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful week ahead and can't wait to see how the children interact with all these wonderful events planned for Reading Week 2024.
