The past week was an extremely busy one in 4Z. We made final preparations for the Live Wax Museum event. We held a pep rally for RICAS testing, there was pie throwing from the winning class of Penny Wars. Spirit Week was another success and learning walk throughs took place. There is not a minute that goes by that we are not actively engaged in some event or other. The month of March used to be very slow moving, but not this one. I can't believe that we are entering Easter Week. This is going to be a 4 day week, but it is already packed and full of activities and of course lots of learning.Live Wax Museum:
On Thursday, the children took part in presenting their Rhode Island figure to all of the classes and teachers that came to see us. Thursday afternoon, the children did a fantastic job as they tranformed into statues that came to life. It was amazing to hear their speeches. They endured a whole afternoon dedicated to these presentations and did not once, back down or give up. I truly loved seeing them all come alive.
The children really did a wonderful job in putting this all together.
Each year I am pleased and so proud of them doing such a great job.
The days beforehand, we practice our speeches and it this event never disappoints.
Spirit Week:
We had many students participating in the theme days that the student council put together for us. The children enjoy the days where they can come in dressed in certain attire. This week's focus was for RICAS. Since the assessment is quickly approaching, we had our days revolve around motivating and preparing them for the state testing.
Wonders:
The children are continuing to do wonderful things with our Wonders curriculum. We are working on expository text and writing to inform.
Reveal Math:Our Math Unit revolves around fractions. The children have been learning about equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. They use fractions strips to find equivalent fractions and have some really nice conversations to solve problems as a group.
Collaboration:
The children have many opportunities to work together in groups. It could be to solve a math problem, give each other ideas about what to write about or even to edit someone's writing. There is always some type of collaboration taking place. They help each other out and do not leave anyone out when it comes to learning and discovering.
Friday's Pep Rally and Penny Wars Winners:
The 5th grade student council did a wonderful job in putting together this year's pep rally for RICAS. There was a speech from the president, cheering, singing, chanting and lots and lots of screaming all to motivate our students to do well on the state testing.
The Grand Finale:
Our afternoon ended with the third graders (winners of the Penny Wars) getting to throw pies in Mr. Pacitto's face. The screams and yells that led to it were at a record high in decibels. The children were so excited to see it happen and our leader was such a great sport about it.
The Week Ahead:
It is going to be another busy one for us. Starting with tomorrow- Spring Pictures will be taking place. We are holding attendance assemblies and Star Conferences on Thursday and don't forget- No School on Friday. Hope you all have a fabulous week ahead.
